How do I maximise my energy efficiency during events?

Money is earned based on how much you can discharge from your battery as well as how much you can reduce your consumption (vs. a baseline)

Since your battery charge and discharge is controlled automatically by us in the run up to and during event hours, there's nothing that you need to do to automatically maximise the benefit of your battery. Simple!

There is also an option to earn more if you can reduce your consumption when compared with a baseline for a similar time. To maximise this difference, consider waiting to use high-energy appliances like ovens, dishwashers, immersion heaters and tumble dryers until after the event has finished.

In situations where appliance use is necessary during a DFS event, opting for less energy-intensive alternatives is advisable. For instance, using a microwave in place of an electric oven can effectively reduce electricity consumption while maintaining convenience.

Regarding less energy-intense devices such as modern televisions (LED), laptops, and energy-efficient light bulbs, altering their usage times may have a minimal impact. However, every effort towards energy efficiency is valuable, especially if added together.

How is my baseline calculated?

Your baseline is essentially the "normal" or expected amount of energy that you use during a given period. By letting us connect to your smart meter, we can calculate these figures for week days and weekends (energy usage patterns are usually different between the two).
