Scaffold Guide for Solar PV

Thinking of arranging your own scaffolding? Here’s a practical guide to help you make sure your quote covers all the important bits for a smooth installation.

To ensure the safety and reliability of your scaffolding installation, it's important to work with a reputable installer. Here's how you can ensure you're choosing the right one:

  • Research and Reviews: Look for customer feedback and reviews online. Many scaffolders now have websites where you can find testimonials. Websites like Google, Trustpilot, and Checkatrade are excellent resources for finding reliable reviews.
  • Insurance and Credentials: Request a copy of the scaffolder's public liability insurance certificate and their terms and conditions. Additionally, ensure that the lead scaffolder holds a valid CISRS card, indicating their qualification to erect the scaffolding safely. You can verify CISRS cards at CISRS website.

Possible Permissions:

Permits and Licences: If your property requires permits or a public licence (for scaffolding landing on public land), the scaffolder will typically handle this process. Be aware that this may involve additional costs and potential delays, as it's subject to approval from your local council.

Neighbour Permission: If your scaffolding will encroach on your neighbour's property, you'll need to obtain their permission beforehand.

Requests to Your Scaffolder:

Scaffolding for Solar: Ensure that the scaffolder understands the specific requirements for solar installations. The platform must reach up to the gutterline to accommodate solar panel installation.

Access Details: Clearly communicate the access requirements for erecting the scaffolding. Inform the scaffolders if there's a side access to a rear garden or if the scaffolding needs to be transported through your house.
