What do I need to do to take part?

A battery, a registered smart meter and the desire to help

As long as you have a Smart Meter, a battery and haven't signed up for the DFS through another provider, you could benefit from this scheme with us.

Compatible Systems

The inverter and battery systems that we can work with are:

Solis & Pylon

Most suppliers will need you to register for every event and then, during each event, actively reduce your energy usage. We're working to make that journey even easier in that we're able able to remotely and automatically get you participating in events.

With your permission, we'll make sure your battery has been charged from your solar panels or from cheap overnight energy before the event happens. Then, at the start of the event, we'll automatically tell the battery to discharge and sell to the grid. You don't need to lift a finger!

If you're also able to reduce your energy usage in the event, then you could earn even more during the event! See this short FAQ for more info.

How to link your Solis inverter to allow automatic participation

We can help you take part in events automatically by making sure that your battery is charged at the start of the event and then puts power into the grid during the event to earn you money.

To do this, we need to make sure that your inverter is connected to us in the Solis Dashboard. You can do this with a few simple steps:

  1. Open your Solis Cloud App and tap the "..." in the top right. Then tap "Modify Info"
  2. Select "Organisation Code"
Solis App - Add Organization Code
  3. Enter our code 28204
    Organisation Code for Solis
  4. Select our organization code and then scroll down to "Confirm modification"
    Confirm (1)

And you're done!

How to get a new smart meter In-Home-Display (IHD)

This is usually as simple as getting in contact with your energy supplier. Almost all of them will be able to provide you with an in home display (only some of the smallest suppliers are not able to offer this service).

Additionally, the installation of a smart meter and the accompanying in-home-display are free! In some cases, suppliers may charge for replacement units, but they will let you know if charges will apply.

How to get your device registered with the DCC

Once you've got your device installed, the natural next step is for suppliers to complete this registration automatically.

If you've recently had a smart meter installed (perhaps in order to be able to export excess generation from your solar panels), this registration may take up to 28 days. If it's been 28 days and still not been completed, give your supplier a nudge!

How to remove duplicate/old devices

You guessed it, your supplier can help with this! If you've had a new meter installed, for whatever reason, it's important to make sure that the right one is connected. Take a note of the serial numbers, MAC addresses and any other identifying numbers on your devices and work with your supplier to make sure that the right one is registered.

How to check if your IHD is compatible & connected

If you think you have a smart meter, you can use a free online tool from Citizens Advice to check if it's connected and working in "smart mode". All you'll need is your MPAN and your postcode.

Your MPAN is your Meter Point Administration Number and can be found on your electricity bills and any online energy supplier account that you have. If you have a bill to hand, it should be a 12 or 13 digit code that looks like this (highlighted in white):

Once you've got that, use either of these links to check your meter:

Do I need to keep my IHD on?

Yes, please keep your in home display on and connected in order to take part in the higher rate battery discharge events.
